This Weekend World Day of Prayer for Vocations:
Why on earth am I here? A boat without a rudder usually ends up in the weeds. That’s not where God wants you! God has a purpose for your life. It’s your vocation. Today, we celebrate World Day of Prayer for Vocations and pray for all Christian vocations – married, single, ordained and consecrated religious. If you would like to talk with someone about a possible vocation to priesthood, please contact the Diocesan Office of Priesthood Vocation Awareness at 585 328 3210 ext. 1374 or visit www.ROCpriest.org for more information.

Catholic Home Missions Appeal:
The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to support home mission dioceses in the United States is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to the next week’s appeal.

Financial Councils Meeting:
The finance council for St. James will meet on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis Solanus. The finance councils for St James the Apostle, St. Francis Solanus, and Holy Cross will also meet on Tuesday, April 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Solanus Church.

Religious Education:
First Penance (Sacrament of Reconciliation, Confession) will be held on Sunday April 17 at 9:00 a.m. First Holy Communion (Eucharist), will be Sunday, May 15, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Women’s Guild Garage Sale in Conjunction With T’burg Village Garage Sale:
The Women’s Guild garage sale will be on the May 22 weekend. Please donate clean and unbroken items. They may be dropped off at the rectory garage. We cannot accept curtain rods, T.V.’s, computers, clothes, or books.

2015-2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal Report:
Our parish is well behind in meeting our given goal of $19,696. Every family’s help is needed. If we do not reach our goal we have to make up the difference from our ordinary weekend collections, which at the present time would be a hefty burden. Envelopes for making a pledge are in the pews and in the vestibule of the church. You may also contribute online. Please participate in the Appeal and do what you are able. If everyone participates we will reach our given goal. Your help is needed.

Report as of April 14:
Parish goal: $19,696        Pledged: $16,625        # of Donors: 94
% of goal: 84.41%

Communion Breakfasts:
It is understood that those going to the breakfast would first be together in attendance at Mass. Men and Boys, Father and Son breakfast will be on Sunday, April 24, after St. James the Apostle’s 8:00 a.m. Mass. The breakfast will be held at the American Legion in Trumansburg. Sign-up sheets are located in the vestibule of the churches.

St. James Women’s Guild breakfast will be on Sunday, May 1, after the St. James 8:00 a.m. Mass. It will be held at the American Legion in Trumansburg. Tickets are needed in advance and are available after all the Masses. The cost is $10 and the guest speaker is Dr. Richard Orzeck, D.V.M.

Scripture Studies—The Gospel of Matthew:
A study of the Gospel of Matthew is available on Tuesdays after the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. James. For more information phone or text Camille Taranto 607 793 7753.

Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy:2015 Year of Mercy logo
The origin of the Christian Jubilee goes back to Old Testament times. The Law of Moses prescribed a special year for the Jewish people to make restitution for wrongs committed, to forgive debts owed, and set slaves free. In the Roman Catholic tradition, a Holy Year or Jubilee is a great religious event, for the forgiveness of sins and the punishment due to sin. A Jubilee is a year of reconciliation between adversaries. It is a time of solidarity, hope, justice and commitment to serve God with joy and in peace with our brothers and sisters. The guiding principle of  the year: “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful.

Helpers Needed:
The parish is in need of help in two areas that do not take a lot of time and have flexible schedules:
• Offertory Collection Counters – We currently have three counting teams that perform their counting activity either on Sunday (after the 10:30 a.m. Mass) or on Monday. The counting activity takes about one and a half hours depending on the size of the collection(s). We would like to increase the number of teams so that each team counts only once a month. Each team would consist of a minimum of two non-related individuals and would attend a training class to review the Diocesan/St. James counting procedures which takes about one hour.
• Parish Soft Data Base Entry – This activity consists of the computer data entry of all parish donations into a Diocesan mandated data base tool. This activity takes less than an hour and can be performed any time Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday morning. The diocese provides a user id and password along with a training class that takes about 45 minutes.
If you have any question or are interested in signing up for either of these activities please do not hesitate to phone the parish office at 607-387-6781 or email us at [email protected] .

Project Rachel Training in the Year of Mercy:
Do you have a heart for those who are struggling after an abortion? While very helpful for every area of the Diocese, we are especially in need of trained volunteers in the Southern Tier. Project Rachel Training, Thursday, April 28, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry with video conferencing available at St Casimir in Elmira, St Margaret Mary in Appalachin, and Sacred Heart in Auburn. Family Friendly Contra Dance:
There will be a family friendly contra dance, with Miller’s Wheel / Ted Crane calling, on Saturday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Perry City Meetinghouse, 6324 Route 227. Suggested donations: $5 / person, $9 / couple, $12 / family. Bake sale: bread to take home. Fundraiser for Perry City Quaker Meeting.

Caring for Our Common Home, Putting Laudato Si into Action:
On the eve of Earth Day, Thursday, April 21, there will be a presentation on how we and congregations can use less, waste less, and better protect our planet. Place: Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, Ithaca. There is a basket in the vestibule of the church for donations of toiletries. The request comes from Catholic Charities which is in need of items like shampoo, toothpaste, diapers etc. The items will be transferred to the Catholic Charities Office in Ithaca.

Cancer Services Program (Cortland and Tompkins Counties):
This a program that provides free cancer screenings (breast, cervical, and colorectal) to women from ages 40–64 and men ages 50–64, who are uninsured or have health insurance that does not cover these screenings and who meet income eligibility requirements.
