Louisiana Flood Victim’s Collection:
At the request of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops’ President Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz and Bishop Matano, our parish will conduct a second collection this weekend to help people in flood-devastated areas of Louisiana and provide pastoral and rebuilding support to affected dioceses. More than 60,000 homes have been lost with nearly 20,000 people rescued from floodwaters. If you choose to write a check, please make it out in the name of one of our three churches with “flooding” in the memo/notes field. All proceeds collected will be sent to Catholic Charities USA, which is actively working in the area to provide immediate and long-term relief. You can also donate directly on line at https://catholiccharitiesusa.org. Please be generous and kindly keep all those affected by the flooding in your prayers.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection Next Week
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) needs your help. CCHD was founded to break the cycle of poverty in the U.S. by funding organizations that help individuals help themselves. With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and community economic development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide. Your contribution will defend human dignity and reach out to those living on the margins. Here in Tompkins County, CCHD funded the start-up of the Tompkins County Workers’ Center, which has served thousands of low wage workers, helping them to recoup wages stolen from them and to address bullying and other unfair treatment in the workplace. Please give to CCHD collection.

Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary:
The sisters wish to thank the parish for the generous response to their appeal made on behalf of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith on the weekend of August 7. “Your interest and concern is a real source of encouragement to us and our various missionary endeavors. Please be assured of a continuous remembrance in the prayers of all of us.” The collection from the three churches amounted to $3,745.56.

Parish Mission:
All parishioners and others, please make plans to attend this mini spiritual retreat. It will be held at St. James the Apostle on the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday evenings of October 3, 4, and 5 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. William H. Winters, OFM Cap, will be the presenter. Fr. Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy:2015 Year of Mercy logo
The origin of the Christian Jubilee goes back to Old Testament times. The Law of Moses prescribed a special year for the Jewish people to make restitution for wrongs committed, to forgive debts owed, and set slaves free. In the Roman Catholic tradition, a Holy Year or Jubilee is a great religious event, for the forgiveness of sins and the punishment due to sin. A Jubilee is a year of reconciliation between adversaries. It is a time of solidarity, hope, justice and commitment to serve God with joy and in peace with our brothers and sisters. The guiding principle of  the year: “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful.
