First Reading:
The LORD called Samuel again, for the third time. Getting up and going to Eli, he said, “Here I am. You called me.” Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth. (1 Sm. 3:8)

Psalm:
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. (Ps. 40)

Second Reading:
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body. (1 Cor. 6:19-20)

Gospel:
John was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. (Jn. 1:35-37)

Live the Liturgy—Inspiration for the Week:
Sometimes it is difficult to hear God’s call. We are trained to listen attentively and to hear many things, but spiritual ones are often missed. God is calling us all of the time. He is calling us to drink deeply of the well of life and not get distracted by the superficial and short-lasting things we choose to cling to. Have we ever given a true spiritual life and relationship with God a chance? Jesus says to us today, “Come, and you will see.” May we take Jesus up on his invitation and like Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, be able to exclaim: “We have found the Messiah.”

Catholic Quotes—Words to Inspire the Faithful:
“Holiness grows so fast where there is kindness.” ~St. Teresa of Calcutta

Mother Teresa’s No Greater Love:
Saint Teresa of Calcutta was known for her compassionate and selfless work with the poor, the ill, and the outcast. Come join a five-week discussion of Mother Teresa: No Greater Love, a collection of the essential wisdom of this saint. Let the words of Saint Teresa of Calcutta give you God’s strength, hope, and peace. The discussion will be after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Tuesdays at St. James the Apostle. Books will be provided. If you need additional information, call Camille Taranto, 387-3125.

2018 Offertory Envelopes:
Parishioners using the boxes of offertory envelopes may pick up their box at the following locations: at St. James the Apostle in the Pine Room, at St. Francis Solanus in the annex, and at Holy Cross in the church vestibule/foyer. The boxes at each location are labeled with your name and address. If you would like a box of offertory envelopes please contact the parish office.

Maintenance Fund Envelopes:
In regard to the 2018 boxes of offertory envelopes, this year there is no date on the envelope marked “Maintenance Fund.” Last year one church had dates on the maintenance envelope and we tried to adhere to that date for the other two churches. The maintenance envelope is placed at the beginning of each month in the box of envelopes. This year, when making a contribution to the fund, please deposit the envelope in the regular weekly Sunday collection on the Sunday of the month convenient for you. Your help with the cost of the maintenance of our buildings and grounds is always greatly appreciated.

2017-2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal:
An update of December 29, 2017 was issued: our parish goal for the appeal is $30,549. One hundred and twenty-one households have pledged $27,646 which represents 90.50% of our goal. “Thank you” to all who have made a pledge to the appeal. Pledge envelopes have been mailed and there are envelopes in the foyers of the churches. If we are to reach our given goal—“Participation is primary, what is pledged is secondary.”

Christmas Greeting to the Parish:
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester sent Christmas greetings to our parish and notified us that as part of their prayer ministry, Sister Anne Marie Burns will be praying for our parish and parishioners. Such an act of love offers us the opportunity to keep Sr. Anne Marie and the Sisters of St. Joseph in our prayers.

Love Saves Lives:
Be part of a local March for Life that will coincide with the forty-fifth annual national event in Washington, D.C., on Friday, January 19, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. Gather along the front sidewalk of Immaculate Conception Church, 113 N. Geneva St., Ithaca. The march will peacefully and prayerfully walk to Planned Parenthood and, after a brief prayer, return to the church. Contact Mary Anne Tissot with questions: 315–246–7479

Transportation in Seneca County:
The Seneca County Transportation Corps provides rides for residents of Seneca County to medical and dental appointments and other health related destinations. If you need a ride phone 315–333–2179 or email [email protected].

Cemeteries:
The parish has two cemeteries, St. James the Apostle in Trumansburg and Holy Cross in Ovid. To purchase a burial plot in either cemetery, please contact the parish office. The burial plot cost is $650.

Year of the Eucharist:YearofEucharist_150_LOGO (1)
The following is taken from Bishop Salvatore R. Matano’s pastoral letter announcing a “Year of the Eucharist” in celebration of the 150 (sesquicentennial) anniversary of the diocese. “Recalling that at the Baptism of their children parents are called to be the first and the best of teachers of their children in the ways of the Catholic faith, this “Year of the Eucharist” is intended to encourage and to support parents in fulfilling the special responsibilities entrusted to them. By their good example, parents are the ones who first bring their children to the House of the Lord. In introducing our children to this beautiful encounter with the Lord, we introduce them to the very essence of human life, namely every person’s natural instinct to commune with the Divine. Our children must understand that ‘we worship whom we know,’ Jesus the Christ, and that we indeed do worship ‘in Spirit and in Truth.’ (Cf. John 4:22-23). A child is never too young to be brought to church and never too young to be taught to love Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.” The Bishop’s complete letter may be read on the diocese’s website.

Pregnancy Care Center of the Finger Lakes:
Pregnancy Care Center of the Finger Lakes, located at 551 Exchange St. in Geneva, is offering a “Forgiven and Set Free” post abortive ten-week session beginning October 4 until December 13. There is no cost involved. “If you regret your abortion, you are not alone. Let us help you learn to forgive yourself. Pleased join us for this healing ministry program.” For more information phone 315 789 0708.

Toiletries and Hygiene Products:
There is a basket in the vestibule of St. James church for donations of toiletries. The request comes from Catholic Charities which is in need of items like shampoo, toothpaste, diapers etc. The items will be transferred to the Catholic Charities office in Ithaca.

Cancer Services Program (Cortland and Tompkins Counties):
This a program that provides free cancer screenings (breast, cervical, and colorectal) to women from ages 40–64 and men ages 50–64, who are uninsured or have health insurance that does not cover these screenings and who meet income eligibility requirements.
