Year of the Eucharist June 18, 2017–June 3, 2018

First reading:
“This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words of his.” (Ex. 24:8b)

Psalm:
I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord. (Ps. 116)

Second reading:
For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant. (Heb. 9:15a)

Gospel:
He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.” (Mk. 14:24)

Live the Liturgy—Inspiration for the Week:
As we gather today to reaffirm our faith in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, we are reminded that we are also the Body of Christ. The mission of the Gospel calls us to be Christ for others. There is so much brokenness and pain in our world. Many people are lost and feeling lonely, marginalized and oppressed, victimized and abused. Every time we receive the Body (and Blood) of Christ, we are asked to become what we eat. Are we willing to step aside from our preoccupations and concerns so that we can be Christ for others?

Norman Hummel will complete the one remaining year in the term of a council member who had to resign early due to his employment. Alternates for the council are: Timothy Davis, Thomas Duff, and Nancy McGourty. An alternate has a one-year commitment followed by the option of a three-year term if seats are available. We take this time to “thank” all who nominated themselves or someone else. We thank all the nominees for considering their nomination. We thank the newly selected nominees for their generosity in serving the parish as active participants on the council. The next parish council meeting is Thursday, June 21, at the parish center in Interlaken, beginning at 7:00 p.m. This is an organizational meeting for introducing the new members and alternates and includes the election of an executive committee and appointments to standing committees.

Year of the Eucharist Concludes:
As part of the 150 anniversary of the Diocese of Rochester, Bishop Salvatore Matano dedicated the sesquicentennial anniversary as a “Year of the Eucharist.” With this Sunday’s Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi Sunday) the year’s celebration comes to a close. We praise God for the many blessings bestowed on the diocese over the past 150 years.

Fifty percent of funds collected remain in our diocese to fund local communication efforts. Your support helps spread the Gospel message. To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/ccc. In our parish, the second collections are taken up after the offertory procession.
