Please visit www.usccb.org/catholic-relief to learn how you are making a difference.

Building and Maintenance Fund Envelope:
The building and maintenance fund is not a collection; however, in the boxes of envelopes there is a blue envelope labeled “Building and Maintenance Fund.” Please place your Building and Maintenance Fund contribution envelope in the regular collection. Thank you for your help in this regard.

Dinner / Dance “30 Days Until Spring:”
The dinner/dance was held last Sunday from 1:00–5:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Trumansburg. Over 170 people from St. James, St. Francis, and Holy Cross were present. It was an impressive sight to see the hall full to capacity. The meal was delicious (salad, chicken, pasta, potatoes, sirloin tips, vegetable kabobs and rolls). The meal was completed with homemade desserts. The band, the Tarps, was extraordinary. It was a celebration of the parish families coming together on a Sunday to enjoy one another’s company, to have fun, and especially to “thanks” the 176 parish volunteers from the three parishes who form the back bone of the parishes.

Parish volunteers are sacristans, sacristy launderers, church cleaners and decorators, ushers, greeters, musicians (organists, piano, guitars, violins, trumpeters etc.) song leaders, cantors, choir members, altars servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, parish office workers (receptionists, secretaries, typists, bookkeepers, collection counters and recorders, parish census workers), members of the Parish Council, Finance Council, Building and Grounds committee, liturgy committee, funeral receptions committee, religion education directors, catechists, social outreach people, and parish social (fellowship) organizers. The St. James Women’s Guild was received special mention. Special “thanks” were given to Russ Wedemeyer, Phyllis Motil, and Cathy Millspaugh for creating the event for us. Certificates of appreciation and thankfulness for the blessing our volunteers are to the parishes, were delivered to the volunteers present and will be available to volunteers who were unable to attend.

It was truly an uplifting Catholic event who are a minority in the area between Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake and who nevertheless contribute so much not only to their parishes but to the community. Thank you to all who attended making this a memorable event in the life of the parishes.

Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy:
The origin of the Christian Jubilee goes back to Old Testament times. The Law of Moses prescribed a special year for the Jewish people to make restitution for wrongs committed, to forgive debts owed, and set slaves free. In the Roman Catholic tradition, a Holy Year or Jubilee is a great religious event, for the forgiveness of sins and the punishment due to sin. A Jubilee is a year of reconciliation between adversaries. It is a time of solidarity, hope, justice and commitment to serve God with joy and in peace with our brothers and sisters. The guiding principle of  the year: “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful.
