Dinner – Dance “30 Days Until Spring”:
The dinner dance will be held this Sunday at the American Legion, Trumansburg, from 1:00–5:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 1:00 p.m. followed by an expression of gratitude to the parishes’ volunteers. St. James had 94 appreciation certificates printed. The dinner will be followed by music by the Traps for listening and dancing. The number of people attending is 153+.
Merging of the Parishes Planing Team Meeting:
The planning team will meet this Thursday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Francis Solanus Church, Interlaken.
Merging of Holy Cross, St. Francis Solanus, and St. James the Apostle Update:
• Thank you to the many parishioners who stayed after Mass and participated in a parish meeting one of the past two weekends. If you have additional input regarding pastoral advantages or disadvantages of the proposed merging of the three parishes, please send it to Fr. Bernard as soon as possible. Your comments will be included in the packet of information going to Bishop Matano.
• A Prayer of Unity: A member of the planning team has prepared a prayer for our use during Lent and beyond. Copies are available at each of the churches and on the St. James website under “parish merge.” Please incorporate this prayer into your daily time of prayer. We will also use it at parish meetings.

Please remember that Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence, that is, days in which you do not eat meat.
Stations of the Cross :
Stations of the Cross devotion will be held at:
• Holy Cross on Thursdays of Lent at 6:00 p.m. followed by a soup supper.
• St. James the Apostle on Fridays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Day of Penance and Mercy:
Do you want to go to confession on March 9 but aren’t sure exactly how to do it? Go to http://forgiven.dor.org to find the form and prayers you need to know to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance. Throughout the diocese, Wednesday March 9 will be a day of penance and mercy. Confessions will be held in all churches from 12:30–7:30 p.m.
Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy:
The origin of the Christian Jubilee goes back to Old Testament times. The Law of Moses prescribed a special year for the Jewish people to make restitution for wrongs committed, to forgive debts owed, and set slaves free. In the Roman Catholic tradition, a Holy Year or Jubilee is a great religious event, for the forgiveness of sins and the punishment due to sin. A Jubilee is a year of reconciliation between adversaries. It is a time of solidarity, hope, justice and commitment to serve God with joy and in peace with our brothers and sisters. The guiding principle of the year: “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful.”
2015-2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal Report:
Our parish is well behind in meeting our given goal of $19,696. Every family’s help is needed. If we do not reach our goal we have to make up the difference from our ordinary weekend collections which at the present time would be a hefty bill of $7,146. Envelopes for making a pledge are in the pews and in the vestibule of the church. Please participate in the Appeal and do what you are able. If everyone participates we will reach our given goal. Your help is needed.

Scripture Studies—The Gospel of Matthew:
A study of the Gospel of Matthew is available on Tuesdays after the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. James. For more information phone or text Camille Taranto 607 793 7753.
Church Cleaners Needed:
St. James needs people willing to spend about thirty (30) minutes to clean a small section of the Church once a month. If interested, contact Traci Bump at 607 387 3796.
A Sacristan is Still Needed for the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass:
This need has been expressed earlier this year and continues to be a need. Basically it is setting up for the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass and assuring all has been set in place after the Mass. A job description has been drawn up. It would require arriving 15 minutes before Mass and staying 15 minutes after Mass. Please contact the parish office for inquiries.
Five Points Correctional Facility:
The Five Points Correctional Facility is looking for volunteers to be with children in the play area on “Visiting Saturdays.” The play area is a separate space in the visiting room that is monitored by security staff. The children, ages 4–12 years old, are able to come into the room and play with toys, games, puzzles, coloring books, etc. The volunteers are needed for one Saturday per month for three hours (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.). Rochester Catholic Women’s Conference:
This year’s Catholic Women’s Conference will be held on March 12 at Aquinas Institute High School, Rochester. The theme “Love One Another” invites all to share God’s love and mercy with everyone. Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester Prayers:
Sister Susan Schantz, SSJ, continues to pray for St. James the Apostle Parish in Trumansburg. Let us keep Sr. Susan and the Sisters of St. Joseph in prayer.
Toiletries and Hygiene Products:
There is a basket in the vestibule of the church for donations of toiletries. The request comes from Catholic Charities which is in need of items like shampoo, toothpaste, diapers etc. The items will be transferred to the Catholic Charities Office in Ithaca.
Cancer Services Program (Cortland and Tompkins Counties):
This a program that provides free cancer screenings (breast, cervical, and colorectal) to women from ages 40–64 and men ages 50–64, who are uninsured or have health insurance that does not cover these screenings and who meet income eligibility requirements. These services are provided in local health centers, doctor’s offices, and hospitals. For more information call 1-866 442 2262.
