Live the Liturgy—Inspiration for the Week:
We only have so much psychological and spiritual energy. We easily get tired. Responding to life’s demands and people’s needs can really zap us of all of our energy. Anger, frustration, exhaustion, discouragement, helplessness, and even apathy can run wild. We can find ourselves bitter and irritated by the fact that we have to do it all again. We need to rest, connect, and focus. Deserted places, free of unnecessary distractions and demands, are great places of refreshment and we all need them. Desiring to be alone for a bit and rest does not indicate selfishness. Rather, it radiates wisdom. God is the source of all we do and the satisfaction of every human heart. If we are going to use the gifts God gave us well, then we have to make sure our batteries are recharged and replenished. Jesus invites us to go to a desert place to rest and pray. Where is yours?

Funeral:
Teresa P. Kenney died on June 17, 2021 at the age of 86. A funeral Mass was celebrated on July 10 at St. James the Apostle Church.
New Mass Schedule:
Beginning July 31, 2021, the parish Saturday evening Mass will be at 4:00 p.m. at our parish church, St. Francis Solanus, Interlaken.
Prayer for Healing and Harmony:
In this time of unrest, violence, and disease, when our society is polarized, you are invited to gather for a time of quiet prayer for the healing and harmony of each of us and all of God’s creation. The format will include self-introductions, a brief opening reflection, about 30 minutes of silent, shared prayer and a brief closing. The extended time of shared silence provides an opportunity for quieting personal reflection and healing. You do not need to attend every session.
This event will take place on Wednesdays, July 21 and August 4 & 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Pine Room at St. James the Apostle Church. It will also happen on Wednesdays, July 14 & 28 and August 11 & 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Rectory.

Parishioners using boxes of offertory envelopes will receive a letter from the parish office inquiring about your continued use. Parishioners who desire to use boxes of offertory envelopes, please inform the parish office and an order will be placed for you. Feast Day:
Next Sunday, July 25, is the feast day of St. James the Apostle, the patron saint of our Trumansburg parish church. The Liturgy for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time takes precedence and St. James feast day will not be liturgically celebrated this year.
St. James, also called James, son of Zebedee, or James the Greater, (born, Galilee, Palestine—died 44 AD, Jerusalem;), was one of the Twelve Apostles, distinguished as being in Jesus’s innermost circle and the only apostle whose martyrdom is recorded in the New Testament (Acts 12:2). James and his younger brother, St. John the Apostle, are designated Boanerges (from the Greek boanerges), or “Sons of Thunder” ( Mark 3:17), perhaps because of their characteristic fiery zeal (Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:54).
With Saints Peter and Andrew, James and John were the first four disciples whom Jesus called (Mark 1:16–19). As a member of the inner circle, James witnessed the raising of Jairus’s daughter from the dead (Mark 5:37 and Luke 8:51), the Transfiguration (Mark 9:2), and Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:33 and Matthew 26:37). James and John asked Jesus to let them sit, one at his right and one at his left, in his future glory (Mark 10:35–40), a favor that Jesus said was not his to grant. James was beheaded by order of King Herod Agrippa I of Judea; according to Spanish tradition, his body was taken to Santiago de Compostela, where his shrine attracts Christian pilgrims from all over the world.

Prayers from the Sisters of St. Joseph:
The Sisters of St. Joseph have a prayer ministry for the Diocese of Rochester. They have informed our parish that Sisters Anne Marie Burns and Dolores Bachman will be praying for our parish and parishioners throughout 2021. Let us keep in our prayers the two sisters praying for us and for all the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester.
Year of St. Joseph:
Pope Francis initiated the Year of St. Joseph in recognition of the 150th Anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as patron of the Catholic Church. This year is dedicated to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal.
