Live the Liturgy—Inspiration for the Week:
God shows up in unexpected ways! Just when we think we have God’s agenda figured out, another surprise comes. Expecting to find God only in some places hinders us from finding Him everywhere. Who would have thought that a young boy’s few loaves and fishes would feed thousands of people? The disciples were probably just as amazed as everyone else when this feast appeared before them. Sometimes, we find it difficult to believe that God can do amazing things with something small and simple. Yet, grasping this truth is really at the heart of understanding the power of the Eucharist. Having the Body and Blood of Christ made present for us is one amazing wonder. Actually being fed and nourished by that gift is another. Now being able to become what we have eaten, God can do tremendous things with the simple, humble gifts of our lives. All we have to do is realize that God dwells within us. When we do, then everyone we encounter and everything we do has the power to become a sacramental moment. When done with great love even the smallest gesture can be multiplied exponentially. Now, that’s amazing!

Prayer for Healing and Harmony:
In this time of unrest, violence, and disease, when our society is polarized, you are invited to gather for a time of quiet prayer for the healing and harmony of each of us and all of God’s creation. The format will include self-introductions, a brief opening reflection, about 30 minutes of silent, shared prayer and a brief closing. The extended time of shared silence provides an opportunity for quieting personal reflection and healing. You do not need to attend every session.
This event will take place on Wednesdays, July 21 and August 4 & 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Pine Room at St. James the Apostle Church. It will also happen on Wednesdays, July 14 & 28 and August 11 & 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Rectory.

Feast Day:
This Sunday, July 25, is the feast day of St. James the Apostle, the patron saint of our Trumansburg parish church. The Liturgy for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time takes precedence and St. James feast day will not be liturgically celebrated this year.
St. James, also called James, son of Zebedee, or James the Greater, (born, Galilee, Palestine—died 44 AD, Jerusalem;), was one of the Twelve Apostles, distinguished as being in Jesus’s innermost circle and the only apostle whose martyrdom is recorded in the New Testament (Acts 12:2). James and his younger brother, St. John the Apostle, are designated Boanerges (from the Greek boanerges), or “Sons of Thunder” (Mark 3:17), perhaps because of their characteristic fiery zeal (Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:54).
With Saints Peter and Andrew, James and John were the first four disciples whom Jesus called (Mark 1:16–19). As a member of the inner circle, James witnessed the raising of Jairus’s daughter from the dead (Mark 5:37 and Luke 8:51), the Transfiguration (Mark 9:2), and Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:33 and Matthew 26:37). James and John asked Jesus to let them sit, one at his right and one at his left, in his future glory (Mark 10:35–40), a favor that Jesus said was not his to grant. James was beheaded by order of King Herod Agrippa I of Judea; according to Spanish tradition, his body was taken to Santiago de Compostela, where his shrine attracts Christian pilgrims from all over the world.

Choose to Refuse Single-use Plastic for five days; it may inspire you to stop using it altogether.

Year of St. Joseph:
Pope Francis initiated the Year of St. Joseph in recognition of the 150th Anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as patron of the Catholic Church.
