It’s God stirring up the hearts of his people.”

I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them so that they need no longer fear and tremble; and none shall be missing, says the LORD. (Jer. 23:4)

Psalm:
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. (Ps. 23)

In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have become near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity. (Eph. 2:13-14)

Gospel:
When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. (Mk. 10:34)

Live the Liturgy—Inspiration for the Week:
The crowds continue to follow Jesus, and when he sees them, he cannot help but be filled with love for them. Let us take our cue from these devoted disciples of Mark’s Gospel, and never, ever stop seeking our Lord.

Events:

Buildings & Grounds Committee Mtg.:
This Thursday, the B&G Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. at St. James.

Ice Cream Social – Sunday, July 28:
Our parish has three churches. The feast days of the churches are St. Francis Solanus, July 16, St. James the Apostle, July 25, and Holy Cross, September 14. In celebration of our churches feast days there will be an Ice Cream Social next Sunday, July 28 at the St. Fidelis Friary Boat House from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Come and enjoy hot dogs, ice cream sundaes, games, and fishing off the dock (bring your gear).

Feast Day:
Thursday, July 25, is the feast day of St. James the Apostle, the patron saint of our parish church in Trumansburg.

St. James, also called James, son of Zebedee, or James the Greater, (born, Galilee, Palestine—died 44 AD, Jerusalem), was one of the Twelve Apostles, distinguished as being in Jesus’s innermost circle and the only apostle whose martyrdom is recorded in the New Testament (Acts 12:2).  James and his younger brother, St. John the Apostle, are designated Boanerges or “Sons of Thunder” ( Mark 3:17), perhaps because of their characteristic fiery zeal (Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:54).

With Saints Peter and Andrew, James and John were the first four disciples whom Jesus called (Mark 1:16–19). As a member of the inner circle, James witnessed the raising of Jairus’s daughter (Mark 5:37 and Luke 8:51), the Transfiguration (Mark 9:2), and Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:33 and Matthew 26:37). James was beheaded by order of King Herod Agrippa I of Judea; according to Spanish tradition, his body was taken to Santiago de Compostela, where his shrine attracts Christian pilgrims from all over the world.

Parish Property Gardening Opportunity:
Have an interest in gardening? If you’re interested in improving our parish properties, all are welcome to a meeting of the newly formed MMM Gardening Network on Thursday, August 8, 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus to discuss projects, big and small.

All parish properties are in need of love and care. Each church has plenty of weeding, pruning, and planting to go around. Areas include, but are not limited to, the garden behind the St. James Pine Room, the landscaping along the East side of St. Francis Solanus, and the beds and parking lot median at Holy Cross. This is a great opportunity to get outside and dig into projects that will benefit everyone.

Can’t make the meeting, but you’re interested? Contact Susan at the parish office (607) 294 0064 or [email protected].

Parish Census—Volunteers Needed:
The Diocesan offices of Stewardship and Information Technology have notified our parish that our parish census will take place in the months of June/July/August. The census objective is to gather accurate and up-to-date contact and household information for all registered and unregistered Catholics in the parish. The Offices of Stewardship and Information Technology will guide the parish in conducting the census. Currently, we ask for parishioner help to volunteer to help with this activity. Volunteers, please phone the parish office.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word:
The Roman Catholic Church has provided an option for children when they attend Mass. After the opening prayer, children are dismissed with their adult leaders to the Annex to hear and reflect on the readings in age-appropriate formats. As time permits, children engage in activities reinforcing the message of the readings such as singing songs, coloring, or acting out a skit. Children will return to their families during the offertory procession.

All children are invited to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 4:00 p.m. Mass on August 17 at St. Francis Solanus Church.
