Parish Eucharistic Revival: June 11, 2023–June 2024

First Reading:
“This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words of his.” Ex. 24: 8

Psalm:
I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord. (Ps. 116)

Second Reading:
He is mediator of a new covenant: since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. (Heb. 9: 15)

Gospel:
He took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.” (Mk. 14: 22–24)

Events:

Parish Census—Volunteers Needed:
The Diocesan offices of Stewardship and Information Technology have notified our parish that our parish census will take place in the months of June/July/August. The census objective is to gather accurate and up-to-date contact and household information for all registered and unregistered Catholics in the parish. The Offices of Stewardship and Information Technology will guide the parish in conducting the census. At this time, we ask for parishioner help to volunteer to help with this activity. Volunteers, please phone the parish office or speak with Fr. Bernard.

Fr. Bernard – Away:
Fr. Bernard will be attending the priest’s annual retreat at the Notre Dame Retreat House from Sunday, June 2 evening until Thursday June 6 afternoon. He will also be away Friday evening, June 7, therefore, this Friday evening dialogue opportunity with Fr. Bernard is cancelled.

Corpus Christi Procession and Dish to Pass Supper:
June 2nd is the feast day of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). Our parish is having a Corpus Christi procession in keeping with the Church’s sacred tradition throughout the world.

The procession will take place Saturday, June 1, following the 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Francis Solanus Church, Interlaken. Weather permitting, the procession will go outside. The procession will include three benedictions of the Blessed Sacrament with the singing of Eucharistic hymns and teachings of Jesus read from the Gospels.

A dish to pass social will follow in the St. Francis Solanus Annex. Please make this spiritual and social event your weekend Mass attendance.

Sweet Sunday:
The monthly parish social after the 9:00 a.m. Mass will not take place June 2nd because a parish social, a dish to pass, will be held on June 1st at St. Francis Solanus Church following the 4:00 p.m. Mass and Corpus Christi Procession.

Monthly Cemetery Collection This Weekend:
Please note that the monetary donation to the cemetery can be specified either for St. James the Apostle or the Holy Cross cemetery. When the monetary donation is not specified, your donation is divided between the two cemeteries. Thank you for your help.

Eucharistic Holy Hour – Encounter Night:
Spend time with Jesus in the Eucharist. Encounter nights create the opportunity for a personal encounter with our Lord. They are monthly opportunities to experience a powerful form of worship as a parish. The next Encounter Night is this Thursday, June 6, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Solanus Church, Interlaken. For many in the parish it will mean making the sacrifice to travel.

First Holy Communion:
Next Sunday, June 9th, Harrison Reynolds will celebrate his First Holy Communion at the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Holy Cross Church, Ovid. We rejoice with Harrison and his family.

Faith Understood:
Next Sunday, June 9th Sunday, at Holy Cross Church at 12 Noon, come and hear Paul Zucarelli, a national Catholic speaker and author. Paul Zucarellli had nine cardiac arrests and was dead for two hours. Through intercessory prayer, Paul survived with no brain damage, and now lives to testify his witness about heaven and Christ’s deep love for us. Paul and his wife, Beth, reside in Phoenix. AZ. They are both former Buffalonians. Paul graduated from Canisius College and Beth from Sacred Heart Academy. Learn more about Paul and Beth at Faithunderstood.org.

Catholic Communication Campaign:
Next weekend the second collection is for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Your support helps the CCC connect Catholics with Christ in the United States and around the world using internet, television, radio, and print media. Half the funds we collect remain here in the Rochester Diocese to fund local communications efforts. Your support helps spread the gospel message! Learn more at www.usccb.org/ccc

Personal Care Products Collection:
During the month of June, we are asking all parishioners to donate personal care items for the clients of our local food pantries.

While many personal care items are donated to the food pantries throughout the year, during this month of June, additional attention is being paid to these items. These necessary items are not covered by SNAP / Food Stamps. Personal care products that are needed include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap or washes, shaving soap, razors, deodorants, etc. This special collection will be held during the month of June, ending Sunday, June 30. All items collected in our parish’s churches will go the local food pantry in that village.

Food Donations Needed:
St. James the Apostle Church: every second Sunday of the month non-perishable food can be placed on the table in front of the Blessed Mother statue.

Holy Cross and St. Francis Solanus: food and hygienic items can be placed at the foyers at any time. Monetary donations by check are accepted (Mary, Mother of Mercy with food pantry in the memo-line). Donations may also be made using WeShare Online Giving.
